What I keep, and why

When you unlock the calculators

I ask for your first name, last name and email. Your phone number is optional. You choose whether I may contact you about your plan. That box is never ticked for you.

To make sure the email is really yours, I send a 6-digit code to it, and you type it on the site. If you never type the code, your email is not added to my list. I keep the code only as a scrambled hash, and it stops working after 15 minutes.

I use this to send you the free checklist and my emails about retirement money. If you ticked the box, I may also call, text or email you myself. You can say stop at any time, and I will.

If you sign up for my monthly newsletter, or tick its box on another form, I email it to you once a month. For the newsletter I only need your first name and email.

The numbers you type into a calculator

They stay in your browser. The calculators work them out on your own screen and never send them to me.

Which pages you visit

The site keeps a simple log: which pages and calculators were opened or used, the date and time, and the page you came from. It is tied to a random number kept in your browser, not to a cookie and not to ad networks. If you unlock the calculators, that log is linked to your name.

I use it to see which calculators help people most, to fix the ones that don't, and to follow up only with people who asked me to. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control, the site keeps no log unless you unlock the calculators yourself.

Notes you send me

Notes from the "How can I make this calculator better?" box are saved so I can read them and improve the site.

Where it is kept

In the site's own database at Cloudflare, which hosts this site, and in MailerLite, which sends my emails. The 6-digit code is sent through Resend, an email service, which only sees your email address. I never sell or rent your details, and I don't share them with anyone else.

Stop or remove

Every email has an unsubscribe link. To have everything about you removed, reply to any of my emails and say so. I'll delete it.
